Otway Pork - Bred Free RangeRaised in the rolling foothills of the Otway Ranges in South West Victoria, Australia, Otway’s pigs have been cared for in accordance with strict Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) guidelines - freedom from hunger, thirst, discomfort, pain, injury or disease; Freedom to express their normal behaviour and freedom from fear and distress. |
Otway pigs have been derived from a hybrid strain of pigs with the base genetics made up from the Duroc, Large White and Landrace breeds. Otway chose these breeds for their suitability to outdoor breeding and superior meat quality characteristics such as lean meat yield, tenderness and colour. Otway pigs are born outdoors. From birth, Otway pigs are free to play, forage and do what all pigs like to do best - socialise, sleep in straw, eat a healthy diet and drink fresh clean water freely. To protect them from the natural elements, they are reared in large straw based shelters where they are free to move about, play and exercise. The pigs diet is supplemented using only the highest quality grains, free from any chemical residues and growth hormones. This unique diet and natural environment produces pork that is naturally lean, juicy and full of flavour and has the tick of approval from the National Heart Foundation of Australia. Vic’s Premium Quality Meat is now exclusively stocking a full range of Otway Pork including rack, cutlets, belly, loin and all shoulder and leg cuts.
